Bhansali’s Cup of Woes
Remember last month I had
written about a painter’s death
on the sets of “Padmavati” and
how SLB was worried about the
luck to him
and the film?
Well, about 10

Scores of Rajput Karni Sena
protesters breached the private
security before proceeding to
assault the director and vandalize the film’s set.
The attack was triggered by
rumors that SLB’s magnum opus
has a love sequence between

and Alauddin Khilji, the Delhi
“This is an outrageous distortion of Rajasthan's history as
Rani Ji self-immolated herself
along with other women of the
fort when they heard that Khilji
is marching ahead to take over
the fort,” said Mahipal Makrana,
state president of Karni Sena.
To say that the attack was preposterous is an understatement.
To begin with, few outside the
industry have read SLB’s script.
So no one knows for sure if that
love sequence even exists. Forget
even that: historians say that
Padmavati didn’t even exist.
SLB’s period film is based on the
writings of the 16thcentury Sufi
poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi.
His poem told the story about
Khilji’s attack on Chittor and
Padmavati’s choice to immolate
herself rather than submit to the
sultan. Even as SLB is trying to
reason with the protesters, he is
praying that this string of bad
luck ends soon.
Quit Smoking, Aamir!

me during a video chat recently. While he has shed all the
weight he had gained to play
the aging wrestler in
“Dangal,” there is one nasty
habit he hasn’t been able to
kick. “Unfortunately, I am
still smoking,” he fessed
up. Aamir famously gets
very nervous before every
film’s release and that’s
when he starts smoking.
After the release, he
manages “quite easily”
to give up smoking.
But this time it seems
Deepika out. Kangana in?
to be different. “It’s
taking longer this time but I am
sure I’ll stop smoking soon,” he
promised before signing off.

“Slumdog Millionaire but more

yet to make up his mind.
“The character is that of a
South Indian slum dweller and
none of these girls have been
able to look the part. They just
don’t look poor enough in that
realistic way that Majidi wants,”
Majidi has wanted to make
this film for almost four years
now. So, even though he doesn’t
have an actress in place, he has
started shooting with one half of
the brother-sister duo who form
the lead pair of the film. Shahid
Kapoor’s younger brother, Ishaan
Khattar, will make his debut with
this international production.

a proper conversation with him.
At a time when Shraddha needs
to get back on track, this move
could really derail her,” thinks an
industry insider, who has known
the family for years. Parents-turned-managers have very
rarely been successful but hopefully the Kapoors will have better
luck than most.
