Much ado about
The ruckus created by Indian politicians, Bollywood’s illus-
trious and the religious zealots
due to Telangana Chief Minister
K Chandrashekar Rao’s appoint-
ment of Sania Mirza as the state’s
brand ambassador resembles the
Hindostan and the elephant by
John Godfrey Saxe. Like the
blind men, everyone in the
ruckus saw the issue differently.
In announcing the appoint-
ment, the CM said, ‘Telangana is
proud of Sania who is a true

number five in international ten-
nis and we wish she becomes the
Nothing could be further from
the truth. To expect Sania to
become the greatest tennis player
is far-fetched. It is true that she
is ranked fifth in women’s dou-
bles, but she is nowhere in sin-
gles or mixed doubles. At age 27
it is all going to be downhill for
her and anyone who believes
otherwise has no clue about ten-
The controversy started with

Nonetheless it’s an extremely cost
effective way to advertise.
Sania’s appointment carries a
remuneration of Rs 1 crore (Rs
10 million/ $166,666). Right now
the new Telangana state is cash-strapped and precious little is
being done for its development.
Why then have a Telangana
brand ambassador this early?
A responsible government must
focus on transparency and
accountability; and a vetting
process must be in place for
selection of candidates for high
offices. In the absence of these,
the new Telangana government
will be no better than the erstwhile Andhra government.

Israel gets away with murder
The Israel-Palestine conflict is a never-ending conflict as the oppressors/occupiers of the Palestine land
have full unconditional, unwavering support from the
United States — with weapons, money, and a veto on all
United Nations resolutions against Israel. Israel was
forcefully created by the US and Britain by displacing
Palestinians, as a consolation prize for the Jews’ suffer-
ing in Germany in the hands of Hitler.
The oppressed/Palestinians are unwilling to succumb
and leave, unlike Native Americans who live in reservations now.
The Likud party had a premeditated plan to invade
Gaza because they cannot stand the Palestinian party
Hamas and walked away from peace negotiations
before this war. It started with three Jewish kids killed
by some on the West Bank part of Palestine, which was
followed by the Jewish mob
killing of a Palestinian kid.
The Likud party quickly put
blame on Hamas, and tore
down Palestinian homes in
Gaza and arrested many. This
led to rocket firing from Gaza,
which are mainly a show of

It was an excuse for Israel to
wage a full-scale war, killing
over 2,000 Palestinians. John
Aaron (‘Support Israel,’

warns Gazans to evacuate
within 3 minutes before firing
rockets. Where will they evac-
uate? In the sea? It is a small
area blocked from all sides by Israel and Egypt. This
rhetoric is bought by the US media, which is bombard-
ed with pro-Zionist propaganda. US politicians, any
public figure, or newscasters live in fear of losing an
election or job if they do not speak in favor of Zionists,
no matter what they do. Israel gets away with murder.
There is no hope. Shalom.
