FIA gears up for
India Day parade

The Federation of Indian Associations began
preparatory work for its India Day parade in
New York City, scheduled for August 21, with
an event at the New York consulate.
The theme for this year’s parade, the FIA’s
31st, is to be My Earth-My Home, and will
have actress Rani Mukerji as the Grand
Marshall. The FIA itself is 41 years old.
The consulate event began with the lighting
of the traditional lamp and prayers were followed. 200 invited guests consisting of community leaders, sponsors, media partners and
FIA committee members gathered during the
unveiling of the parade. The program continued with folk dances and a presentation for
sponsorship offering on a various levels.
The speakers included Consul General
Prabhu Dayal; H R Shah of TV Asia; Dr. Sudhir
Parikh; Sudhir Vaishnav of Sahara TV; FIA
Chairman Ramesh Patel; FIA President Bipin
Patel and other committee members.
FIA Trustee Kanu Chauhan announced that
Mukherji will be this year’s Grand Marshall.

Grand Marshall and the chief guest is to be between 28th
and 29th streets. The rented booths – 72 in number this
year – will be located between 24th and 26th streets and
the cultural programs held starting 3 pm on a stage on

Fashion Show for infants, mothers
The Chicago Global Runway’s fashion and jewelry show
June 24 collected $2,500 in donations for the Save a
Mother foundation, an organization aimed at reducing
infant and maternal mortality in India.
Guest of Honor, Saira Mohan delivered a compelling
speech on the importance of the foundation’s work.
