During the inauguration of South Carolina
Governor Nikki Haley January 12, a securi-
ty officer fainted. Officials asked if there
was any doctor in the crowd, Four Indian
physicians including Dr Raj Vasudeva
stepped forward.
“It showed the participation of Indians in
the inauguration,” said Dr Mukesh Roy, a
physician and executive director of the
Republican Indian Committee-New Jersey
Chapter, who attended the event with a six-
member team. RIC-NJ had organized a
fundraiser for Haley during her campaign.
“There were more than 100 Indians from
various parts of the country. Two dozen
people, mostly Haley’s relatives, came from
Punjab. There was no hiding of the Indian
identity or shying away from the communi-
ty,” added Roy, whose team included RIC-
NJ chairman Dr Bapineedu Kuchipudi and
president Arthur Kapoor.
